INDUCTION DAY (I-Day) While preparing for I-Day (the first day of Plebe Summer) feel free to call your mentor or other members of the Parents' Club to answer any questions. Several of the parents have videos of previous years Induction Day Ceremonies which can be borrowed and will give you a clear vision of what your son or daughter will be experiencing. You may be wondering whether you should accompany your Plebe for I-Day. Most West Coast parents do not attend as it is expensive and there is relatively little time to visit (15 minutes at most). Also, your son or daughter has just joined the Navy and is beginning his/her new experiences away from home. Your young person is capable of beginning the adventure independently. If yo decide to travel to Annapolis for Induction Day, try to arrive a few day early to see our nations capitol in Washington D.C. and historic Annapolis. Many who have opted for the experience feel it is nice to have enjoyed the geography before the demanding year when the Mid will have his head "in a bag." If you are a military office or if there is a family member or friend who is a military officer, you , or they, may induct your Plebe. Contact the Academy in advance for particulars. Please refer to the Travel Section for further information regarding travel arrangements to and from the Academy. |
